About This Project

Essence is a 16 story, mixed use project, which includes residential apartments, offices and retail spaces. The building has multiple water optimisation technologies. These include a temporary rainwater storage tank, which forms part of the municipality’s push towards decentralised Sustainable Urban Drainage systems. Rain water is also harvested for its reuse in large vertical gardens that populate the building. Additionally, Essence has a strong focus on reducing its energy consumption footprint. Strategies include heat pump technology for water heating, short- and long- stay bicycle parking spaces and vegetation as part of the building’s bioclimatic design strategies. Finally, the project developed environmental management plans from its phases of construction to operation. In 2020, Essence was awarded an Eco-efficient Building Design Certifcation by the Municipality of Quito.
