About This Project

The objective of this Project was to develop a Bioclimatic Design Guide for the planned public works of Ecuador Estratégico, where guidelines would be developed for the construction of schools, health centres, community centres and housing according the climatic and social contexts they were to be located in. Evolution teamed up with the Sustainable Design Studio to carry out the project, were the work was carried out in two stages. First a social study was led by Evolution, where the aim was to select which of the various options for water systems, construction materials, etc. would have the greatest chance of success in each of the climates and related cultures being researched into. Based on this study, Evolution then developed a series of design strategies for sustainable water systems for each building type adapted to the climate and context within which they were found. This determined whether or not for example, a dry toilet would be recommended over a grey-water recycling system with treatment ponds for sanitary installations.
