About This Project

The conference presentation at the Euro-American Congress “REHABEND 2020” on Construction Pathology, Rehabilitation Technology and Heritage Management, and carried out by Cristina Córdova, showcased Evolution’s research work that was carried out in collaboration with the PUCE University of Ecuador. The article covers an investigation on urban depopulation processes of UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centers in Latin America, focusing on the case studies of Quito, Cuenca, Lima and Santiago de Compostela. It compares the underlying causes of depopulation in the 4 cities, finding similarities and differences in the triggering circumstances. The results are then reviewed in light of each city’s urban development plans, offering insights that could prove useful for decisions to be made in the future.
