About This Project

A 74 ha project for the first phase of a new university campus of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Ecuador, Quito. Evolution carried out a five phase study on urban vegetation and water recycling systems for the campus, where the work ranged from conceptual workshops to detailed design of active and passive rooftop gardens, vertical gardens and on-site water recycling and anaerobic digestion systems. Before Evolution became involved the project could have been described as sustainable design, where passive design had greatly reduced the negative impacts the project had on its surrounding environment. Evolution took this a stage further to reach ecological design, where the project became a vehicle to increase the ecology of the area and where wastewater streams were transformed into nutrition sources for the local environment.
